The aim is to showcase the material’s countless potential and bring glass back to the center of debate on the international art scene.”

DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, March 22\, the MoCA Association is organizing a guided tour of Villa Manin to explore the exhibition “Borders – From Gauguin to Hopper.” \nThe exhibition “Borders from Gauguin to Hopper. Song with Variations” explores\, through over 120 paintings and works on paper from major European and American museums and private collections\, the concept of borders as physical\, interior\, symbolic\, and spiritual spaces in 19th- and 20th-century painting. \nThe exhibition opens with an emotionally impactful introductory room featuring seven key works. The opening display is Anselm Kiefer’s large canvas Märkische Heide (1970s)\, a symbol of a cosmic boundary between heaven and earth. Opposite\, an extreme and intimate canvas by Mark Rothko represents the inner boundary. At the center\, Vincent van Gogh’s Self-Portrait seals the reflection on identity and the self. This is followed by famous landscapes by Courbet\, Monet\, and Nolde\, where the natural boundary takes shape between sea\, sky\, and gardens. DESCRIPTION:Arte Laguna Prize flies to Shanghai with an all-new collaboration. The exhibition in November 2025 will host a selection of contemporary artists on display in the heart of the city.  \n\n\nA 100-year-old factory is reborn as an “open-air architectural museum”: EKA Tianwu in Jinqiao\, Pudong is reshaping the logic of urban renewal. \nThe project covers an area of more than 40 thousand square meters\, 1500 of which will be dedicated to Arte Laguna Prize artists. Originally established by the 1869 Pudong Customs Factory\, the space was later leased by Jiayun Investment. After the investment and renovation\, it began to attract investment and become an integral part of the business in the market.   \nEKA\n“EKA” comes from Sanskrit and originally means ‘one’ and “unknown element”\, and the terms combines Exploration (exploration of new things against the grain)\, Knowledge (craftsmanship) and Aesthetics (community of aesthetics). \nThe goal of the project is to restore space for man and nature to coexist together in a place that can respect both elements. \n“Beauty coexists and each has its own beauty\,” and so the design of each building is different from the other. With more than 40 buildings integrating cultures from various countries and various design styles\, EKA Tianwu becomes a museum of architecture that with strong continuity hosts unique and creative projects.  \n\n\n\n\nARTE LAGUNA PRIZE \nArte Laguna Prize will exhibit in one of the buildings with a space of over 1500sqm available\, all dedicated to international contemporary art. DESCRIPTION:SCULTPURE SYMPOSIUM\nScoglieraViva\, the International Open-Air Sculpture Symposium\, is back from June 18th to 28th\, 2025. Over the past thirty years\, it has turned the cliff of Caorle into a veritable open-air museum.\nToday\, this unique art gallery by the sea is one of the most charming places in the ancient Venetian seaside village.\nScoglieraViva is an attraction for thousands of tourists from all over Europe\, but it is also an asset for all citizens. \nSince 2018 the symposium got a new and international meaning\, with artists coming from all over the world\, called to intervene on the cliff’s rocks thanks to Cultural Association MoCA and Arte Laguna\, who have been following the project together with Caorle Municipality.\nFrom Germany\, to India passing through Russia\, the Caorle’s seafront now hosts unique works\, testimony to the fact that art is a universal language. The future protagonists of the new 22° edition 2025 will be welcomed by the city on June 18th\, day in which they will start the Art Residency and their sculptures. The inauguration evening – to which all are invited to participate – will be hosted in the center of Caorle on June 28th\, 2025.   \nEVENT\nThe public presentation and Inauguration Ceremony will be Saturday June 28th\, 2025\, at 9pm in Piazza Vescovado. Spazio San Luca hosted Pozas during the months of May and June with his most famous works. \nThe opening night was held on 11 May\, giving great visibility to the artist. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the artist \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPozas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelf-taught painter who\, after finishing his studies in Electrical Engineering\, decided to leave his job to devote himself entirely to painting. His production is part of three trends\, from the abstract to the search for the deepest self\, the landscape as an expression of its relationship with nature\, and the psychic structuralism as a connection with reality that is perceived. DESCRIPTION:In the heart of the city of Venice there is a wonderful exhibition space where artists can show their best works in one of the most important cities in the world. Spazio San Luca has hosted Qian Wu during the period of the exhibition Arte Laguna Prize as a Collateral Event. \nThe opening night was held on 12 March\, giving great visibility to the artist. It was the first time that the artist exhibited his works outside of China and Asia. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the artist \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQIAN WU\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in Xiamen\, China\, he started making art at an early age. He graduated from the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University and holds a master’s degree from the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University. From 2011 to 2016 he studied at Art Studies League in New York. His technique is very particular\, using a traditional Chinese ink to connect the Eastern and Western worlds. The main concept behind his works is the abstract that becomes reality and exceeds the horizon. On this occasion\, it did so in collaboration with the 12th Laguna Art Prize\, which gave Swatch the opportunity to choose\, from a variety of artistic proposals\, Jeff Leake as the winner of a three-month residency in this unique space\, which includes 18 studios where artists live and work in a stimulating urban environment.  \nJeff Leake arrived in Shanghai on June 14 to begin this new and exciting adventure. As he says\, it has been one of the most incredible experiences of his career\, which has already had a significant impact on his art.\n“Having this space and so much time devoted solely to art making is a gift that has allowed me to grow and explore new directions in my work.” \nFor Jeff\, one of the most important aspects of an art residency is the people you come into contact with. \nThanks to one of his fellow residents at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel\, he met the gallerist at Ying Gallery (Beijing)\, who decided to organize an exhibition featuring the works of Jeff Leake and two other artists\, Jamie M. Lee and Jiang Peiyuan. \nThe exhibition will present works that Jeff created during his stay in China\, a group of paintings on wood strongly influenced by his experience with Swatch\, which can be seen as a reflection on the complexity of cultural interactions. The paintings are cut out in stylized cloud shapes\, conveying the idea that what we see in clouds often reveals something true about us. One of the main themes running through Jeff’s work is the difference between the intentional message of the stories and symbols we use to convey cultural ideals\, and the way we actually interact with our environment and others.   \n \nJeff Leake \nCalifornia-based Jeff Leake holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from UC Davis. DESCRIPTION:The solo exhibition “KYORAI (去来): Coming and Going” by Japanese artist Akihiko Sugiura (Hyogo\, 1979) is the result of a collaboration between Premio Arte Laguna and JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY(New Orleans)\, which selected Akihiko as the winner of the Special “Artist in Gallery” Award of the 13th edition of Premio Arte Laguna.\nThe exhibition will be on view from May 29 to July 15 at the gallery space in New Orleans\, USA. The opening will be held on Saturday\, June 1\, from 6 to 9 p.m.  \nJONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY was immediately attracted to the artist’s dreamlike figurative paintings. His body of work rejects conventional views of painting\, and his moving\, imaginative and slightly disturbing images challenge the very idea of portraiture through the use of landscape and abstract motifs. At the same time\, the artist wants to bring viewers back to reality through the inclusion of empty spaces and the arrangement of concrete materials on the canvas. The gallery has always sought to exhibit works by innovative artists who push the limits of their medium and style\, and Akihiko’s work succeeds in doing just that. Zamagni’s kaleidoscopic visions of unnatural worlds where man-made industrial structures and architectures of density are depicted in a state of instability and excess carry the weight of impending ecological disasters.    \nWith the special “Artist in Gallery” awards\, the Arte Laguna Prize has created a format of collaboration with international galleries that gives them the opportunity to see a wide range of artistic proposals selected by an international jury and offers artists the chance to hold a solo exhibition in prestigious galleries around the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatteo Zamagni \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatteo Zamagni (Cesena\, 1992) is an Italian-born artist and filmmaker who lives and works in London.\nHe uses technology as a tool to create immersive and interactive videos\, installations and performances. DESCRIPTION:La mostra personale “Dois Quartos 2/4” nasce dalla stimolante collaborazione tra il Premio Arte Laguna e la Galleria Fernando Santos\, che ha selezionato Alex Dorici come vincitore del Premio Speciale “Artista in Galleria” per il 12° Premio Arte Laguna. \nLa mostra attuale prende spunto da un’approfondita domanda introspettiva: “Qual è il ruolo dell’artista in una società consumistica\, tecnologica e globalizzata come quella contemporanea?”. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpinto dal desiderio di espandere la sua ricerca visiva all’intero spazio della galleria\, Alex Dorici ha proposto un progetto espositivo antropocentrico\, ponendo il visitatore al centro delle sue installazioni. \nScotch Drawing è il nome dato a un insieme di interventi realizzati con il nastro adesivo. Questo materiale è presente nella sua ricerca fin dagli esordi ed è essenziale per il suo corpus di opere. Quando viene applicato all’installazione\, il nastro adesivo assume il ruolo di traccia delle pennellate su una superficie pittorica\, un modus operandi che può essere colto come una cifra stilistica unica che ha affermato le sue opere nel mondo dell’arte.   \nInstallation Rope is part of a set of site-specific works began in 2011. The material is naval rope\, with variable length and thickness\, depending on the space in which the installation is places. The rope is part of a reel which dialogues with the architecture of the space where the installation is placed. This subtle technique and material aim at distorting the space and the perception of the viewer\, inviting him/her to enter the installation and become part of it.    \nAlex Dorici\, of Italian and Portuguese nationality\, was born in Lugano (Switzerland) in 1979\, where he currently lives and works. At the beginning of 2000\, Alex followed his artistic vocation joining the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli in Como and graduating in 2005 in Painting and Engraving. As a student\, he won the first prize at the Concorso di studi Angelo Tenchio (Como)\, in the video art section\, with the short-film Saudade Itamar (2003). Since 2007 Alex Dorici’s artistic production has been profoundly marked by a persistent research of the dialogue between the work of art\, the surrounding environment and the public. Moreover\, the artist has constantly been challenged by the street art language and made subtle interventions\, using the tape in order to give a new dimension to the abandoned urban spaces. Sensitive to the frenetic consumerism and the consequent debris\, Alex Dorici paid a special attention to the use of recycled materials\, inviting to an ethical fruition of his installations.      \nGaleria Fernando Santos\, now celebrating its 25th anniversary\, was the first art gallery to settle in Miguel Bombarda Street\, Porto\, in what later became the so called Art District. Contributing to creating an unprecedented dynamic in the city\, Galeria Fernando Santos has been constantly carried on its activity with the goal to promote promising young artists within the art market.  \nWith the special prizes “Artist in Gallery”\, Arte Laguna Prize aims at creating a wide and versatile network within the international art world\, giving the artists the opportunity to collaborate with a large variety of galleries\, museums and foundations. \nAlex Dorici is on view at Galeria Fernando Santos from May 4th until June 29th 2019. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition catalogue > \nGaleria Fernando Santos >
