SUMMARY:BLUE | Qian Wu - Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In the heart of the city of Venice there is a wonderful exhibition space where artists can show their best works in one of the most important cities in the world. Spazio San Luca has hosted Qian Wu during the period of the exhibition Arte Laguna Prize as a Collateral Event. \nThe opening night was held on 12 March\, giving great visibility to the artist. It was the first time that the artist exhibited his works outside of China and Asia. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the artist \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQIAN WU\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in Xiamen\, China\, he started making art at an early age. He graduated from the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University and holds a master’s degree from the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University. From 2011 to 2016 he studied at Art Studies League in New York. His technique is very particular\, using a traditional Chinese ink to connect the Eastern and Western worlds. The main concept behind his works is the abstract that becomes reality and exceeds the horizon. He is currently working and continues to organize solo exhibitions. \n\nBLUE\nWhen March 12 – April 16\nLocation San Luca Space\, Venice \nGoogle Maps >

Starting from a fixed point\, the art of this painter from Piacenza follows exciting developments\, and each of her creations enhances every moment\, thought\, material\, object that led her to create. A fluid production\, never banal\, rich in infinite facets\, that draws on the World and touches the depths. \nCritic Text written by Domenico de Chirico > \n\nREFRACTIONS – Collective Exhibition\nInauguration: 14 may 2022\, h. 18.00 – 20.00\nOpening: 14 may – 31 october 2022\nLocation: Villa Valmarana ai Nani\, Via dei Nani\, 8 – Vicenza (VI) \nDownload the invitation > \n \n

DESCRIPTION:The initiative of the Diffuse Exhibitions in Veneto was born from the collaboration between Arte Laguna Prize and some villas\, residences and cultural institutions of the territory with the aim of continuing to promote and discover new talents of the international artistic system. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“It ‘a discovery for the visitor in Villa the work of young artists\, work that in turn gives a new dimension to the Venetian Villas\, bringing charm and emotion to both reality.\nBorn as business centers of the properties of Venetian families on the mainland\, the Venetian Villas\, now as then\, live once again the present time in which artistic expression\, disruptive creativity\, contamination of media and styles\, Innovative experiences are beautifully integrated into the most monumental and representative landscape and artistic context. While Baldissera’s works invite us to delve into the unknown\, diving into the depths and challenging us to find answers to unknown questions\, Nacho’s work requires us to dig into the apparent reality of things\, questioning their status quo.\nThe curtain thus opens on an unexpected and intriguing scene\, where dialogue between things and the human becomes possible\, going deeper into hitherto unexplored meanders. \n\nPERSPECTIVE – Collective Exhibition\nInauguration: 8 may 2022\, h. 18.00\nOpening: 8 may – 31 dec. 2022\nLocation: Villa Montruglio\, Via Montruglio\, 9 – Mossano (VI) \nDownload the invitation > \n \n

SUMMARY:Diffuse Exhibitions in The Land of Venice 2022 - Villa Rechsteiner | Roots
Beauty\, novelty\, freshness\, provocation\, charm that seduces or provokes the visitor but still speaks to the heart”\n\nIsabella Collalto\, President of Ville Venete Association \n\n\n\n\n\nThe works of Arte Laguna Prize are exhibited at:\n  \n\nVilla Rechsteiner (TV) – March 26 – December 31\nCastello di Thiene (VI) – April 3 – December 31\nVilla Roberti (PD) – April 24 – December 31\nVilla San Liberale (BL) – April 30 – December 31\nVilla Montruglio (VI) – May 8 – December 31\nVilla Valmarana (VI) – May 14 – October 31\nSelvArt (VI)\nVilla dei Cedri (TV) – May 21 – August 15\nSpazio Thetis (VE)\nConfcommercio (TV)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n A symbolic interweaving of memory and vision\, through roots we maintain the link with our history and traditions\, laying the foundation for the generations that will come after us.\nA window to the past and the future\, through these four works we are given a way to approach a private and intimate reality. The history of a family\, firmly intertwined with that of the land\, is evoked through the works of Hasegawa Saori and Shiohara Masumi\, while the installations of Varvara Grankova and Gabriela Torres Ruizci help us look to the future\, asking us to become more aware of our actions and their impact on the environment around us.\nA collective invitation to take note that it is only through our roots that we can truly take flight.Translated with DeepL.com (free version) \n\nRADICI – Collective Exhibition\nInauguration: 26 march 2022\, h. 10.00\nOpening: 26 march – 31 dec. 2022\nLocation: Villa Rechsteiner\, Via Frassenè\, 2 – Piavon (TV) \nDownload the invitation \n\n \n

SUMMARY:Henry Le "Soul Energy" - Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Arsenale Nord in Venice hosts\, for the first time in Italy\, the solo exhibition of Vietnamese artist Henry Le entitled Soul Energy\, a collateral event of the 14th Arte Laguna Prize exhibition. The exhibition project\, curated by Chiara Canali and promoted by MoCA Italia and Arte Laguna Studio\, features forty large-format paintings and an installation of human-sized iron sculptures. \nThe title Soul Energy refers to the energy that pervades Henry Le’s soul\, a fundamental element that allows him to transfer his spiritual world into artworks\, giving them a rhythm and life of their own. Quoting Oscar Wilde’s famous line “A flower blooms for its own delight\,” Henry says his works exist like flowers: you can enjoy them or profit from them. But those works continue to exist and maintain their emotional life. \nHENRY LE\nHenry Le (Le Huu Hieu) was born in 1982 in Nghi Xuan\, Ha Tinh\, Vietnam\, and lives and works in Hanoi.Hailing from Vietnam and with a background as an architect\, Henry Le has chosen artistic research as his life’s priority experience for more than a decade\, placing it at the center of all reflection\, ideas and visual practice. His painting\, while appearing to be influenced by some currents of Western-based informal and gestural art\, has characters of strong autonomy and uniqueness\, allowing him to express a disruptive expressive energy and the identity concepts of his work. \nhenryle.info

SUMMARY:Jeff Leake | The Swatch Art Peace Hotel Residency
DESCRIPTION:American artist Jeff Leake tells us about his experience at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai\, China\, which began in June and ended on September 8\, 2019. \nThe Swatch Art Peace Hotel and its residency program is another example of the brand’s commitment to supporting talent and creativity. On this occasion\, it did so in collaboration with the 12th Laguna Art Prize\, which gave Swatch the opportunity to choose\, from a variety of artistic proposals\, Jeff Leake as the winner of a three-month residency in this unique space\, which includes 18 studios where artists live and work in a stimulating urban environment. \nJeff Leake arrived in Shanghai on June 14 to begin this new and exciting adventure. As he says\, it has been one of the most incredible experiences of his career\, which has already had a significant impact on his art.\n“Having this space and so much time devoted solely to art making is a gift that has allowed me to grow and explore new directions in my work.” \nFor Jeff\, one of the most important aspects of an art residency is the people you come into contact with. \nThanks to one of his fellow residents at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel\, he met the gallerist at Ying Gallery (Beijing)\, who decided to organize an exhibition featuring the works of Jeff Leake and two other artists\, Jamie M. Lee and Jiang Peiyuan. \nThe exhibition will present works that Jeff created during his stay in China\, a group of paintings on wood strongly influenced by his experience with Swatch\, which can be seen as a reflection on the complexity of cultural interactions. The paintings are cut out in stylized cloud shapes\, conveying the idea that what we see in clouds often reveals something true about us. One of the main themes running through Jeff’s work is the difference between the intentional message of the stories and symbols we use to convey cultural ideals\, and the way we actually interact with our environment and others. \n \nJeff Leake \nCalifornia-based Jeff Leake holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from UC Davis. He has exhibited nationally in the U.S. and internationally\, and has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards\, including the Arte Laguna Prize\, the Ford Foundation Golden Spot Award\, the Oregon Art Commission and the Regional Arts & Culture Council\, as well as having participated in art residencies at Caldera\, UCROSS and Swatch. He currently lives and works in Portland\, Oregon. \n\nART RESIDENCY PRIZE \nArtist: Jeff Leake\nLocation: The Swatch Art Peace Hotel\, Shanghai\nExhibition venue: Ying Gallery\, Beijing\nInauguration: 24 august 2019\nExhibition: 24 august – 30 september 2019

SUMMARY:Clara Lotta Dittmer | Espronceda Residency
DESCRIPTION:Young German artist Clara Lotta Dittmer (Hamburg\, 1992) is in Barcelona for her 6-week art residency in Espronceda\, won during the last edition of the Arte Laguna Prize in March 2019. \nEspronceda is an innovative contemporary art center in the heart of Barcelona that has been collaborating with the Arte Laguna Prize for years\, offering an art residency in a multi-disciplinary environment\, including a final exhibition in its wonderful spaces. \nWhen she found out that she had been chosen as the winner of this award\, Clara felt incredibly honored and excited to immerse herself in this new experience. “Getting out of daily life for 6 weeks and immersing myself in a new environment is a wonderful experience for which I am truly grateful.” \nAs soon as she arrived\, she immediately felt welcomed by the city and its people. The encounters she made during her stay were a source of great inspiration for her\, both artistically and humanly. As she recalls\, “In the morning I would ride my bike to wonderful places while they were still empty and as the day went on\, I would watch little scenes in the street of people talking\, discussing\, and resting. \n\nPRIZE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist: Clara Lotta Dittmer\nLocation: Espronceda Center for Art & Culture\, Barcellona\nInauguration: 27 August 2019\, 7pm\nExhibition: 28 August – 6 September 2019\nFinissage: 4 September 2019\, 7.30pm \nwww.espronceda.net \n\nThere were so many moments that made me happy. Barcelona is a city full of color\, so it wasn’t hard to find motivation and inspiration.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeing in Espronceda had a strong effect on Clara’s art\, especially on the size of her paintings. Having so much space to herself has allowed her to confront her skills in a new way and try many things. After this residency\, she feels much stronger and more confident as an artist. \nThe result of her wandering around Barcelona\, getting lost in its streets\, listening to the city and the sounds of the people is the solo exhibition People\, which opens Aug. 27 in the spaces of Espronceda. The exhibition showcases a new series of portraits Clara painted during her residency. With People Clara aims to explore the mystery and complexity of human beings and existence. Her main interest is describing and observing the history and voices of people and their daily lives in the streets. \nIn addition\, there will be a finissage on September 4 during which a talk will take place in which Clara and Savina Tarsitano\, artist and co-founder of Espronceda\, will reflect together on the role and impact of art residencies. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClara Lotta Dittmer \nClara Lotta Dittmer was born in Hamburg\, Germany in 1992 and studied painting at HAW Hamburg with Prof. Christian Hahn and Prof. Henning Kles. During 2013-2014 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna\, Italy before graduating with honors from HAW Hamburg in 2015.\nMusic has always been a great source of inspiration for the artist\, especially the cello\, which she started playing at the age of 6. Clara has exhibited her work in Germany\, and is one of the finalists for the coveted Premio Arte Laguna\, in Venice\, Italy in 2019.

SUMMARY:Yu Kato | Art Stays Festival
DESCRIPTION:July 5\, 2019 marks the opening of the 17th edition of the ART STAYS Festival\, Slovenia’s largest festival dedicated to contemporary arts. Every summer the ancient town of Ptuj is transformed into a crossroads of art and culture that for years has attracted both promising young artists and some of the biggest names on the international art scene\, such as Ai Weiwei\, Yoko Ono\, Olafur Eliasson\, Gilbert & George\, Jake and Dinos Chapman\, and many others. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 17th edition of the festival\, entitled FUTURE – the vision of the world\, will feature international artists who explore the concept of the future and seek to answer\, through their artistic proposals\, the question: what does the future hold?\nThe more than eighty selected artists will present site-specific projects or works that offer a careful reflection on their research and practice not only artistic but also cultural\, social\, political\, anthropological towards the search for our Future. \nSince 2010 Art Stays has collaborated with the Arte Laguna Prize to select an artist to be given the opportunity to participate in this important international event. This year’s winner is Japanese artist Yu Kato (Tokyo\, 1985)\, a finalist in the sculpture and installation section of the last edition of the Arte Laguna Prize. During her artistic residency in Ptuj she will create a large spatial installation in the castle courtyard\, powered by nature\, which changes shape and color along with the wind. \nIndeed\, the basis of Yu Kato’s installations is the attempt to create spaces in which it is possible for people to interact with their surroundings. The artist was chosen by the organizers of the Festival for her research that unveils\, through matter\, a new world of emotions by stepping outside the box and relating on the one hand to the viewer and on the other to time and space. \nIt will be possible to meet the artist on Monday\, July 8\, during an open studio and artist talk to be held at the Ptuj Castle courtyard. The installation will be officially opened on July 12. \nART STAYS FESTIVAL July 5-12\, 2019 at Ptuj\, Slovenia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScheda Art Stays Festival > \nwww.artstays.si

SUMMARY:Akihiko Sugiura - Jonathan Ferrara Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The solo exhibition “KYORAI (去来): Coming and Going” by Japanese artist Akihiko Sugiura (Hyogo\, 1979) is the result of a collaboration between Premio Arte Laguna and JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY(New Orleans)\, which selected Akihiko as the winner of the Special “Artist in Gallery” Award of the 13th edition of Premio Arte Laguna.\nThe exhibition will be on view from May 29 to July 15 at the gallery space in New Orleans\, USA. The opening will be held on Saturday\, June 1\, from 6 to 9 p.m. \nJONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY was immediately attracted to the artist’s dreamlike figurative paintings. His body of work rejects conventional views of painting\, and his moving\, imaginative and slightly disturbing images challenge the very idea of portraiture through the use of landscape and abstract motifs. At the same time\, the artist wants to bring viewers back to reality through the inclusion of empty spaces and the arrangement of concrete materials on the canvas. The gallery has always sought to exhibit works by innovative artists who push the limits of their medium and style\, and Akihiko’s work succeeds in doing just that. In his paintings\, Akihiko depicts characters that represent various questions of modern times such as: Are we dead or alive? What is gender? Are humans something else? Real or virtual? As the artist himself states\, “In my work\, there is also a sense of being invited back into a world of imagination. Everything can be interpreted in many ways. This vision is connected to and inspired by Buddhist and Zen philosophy and its worldview.” Works of art take on different meanings when viewed by people\, and there are no misinterpretations\, as art cannot escape the gaze and interpretation of people who appreciate it. \nWith the special “Artist in Gallery” awards\, the Arte Laguna Prize has created a format of collaboration with international galleries that gives them the opportunity to see a wide range of artistic proposals selected by an international jury and offers artists the chance to hold a solo exhibition in prestigious galleries around the world. \nKYORAI (去来): Coming and Going from 29.05 to 15.07.2019 at JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY – inauguration 29.05.2019. \n Click here to watch the video of the exhibition > \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCatalogue > \nJonathan Ferrara Gallery >

SUMMARY:Matteo Zamagni | Anise Gallery\, London
DESCRIPTION:The solo exhibition “Crepuscolo” by digital artist Matteo Zamagni (Cesena\, 1992) is the result of a collaboration between Arte Laguna Prize and Anise Gallery (London)\, which selected Matteo as the winner of the Special “Artist in Gallery” Award of the 13th edition of Premio Arte Laguna. “Crepuscolo” is Matteo Zamagni’s first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom and will also mark the launch of the gallery’s second space in southeast London. \nThe exhibition includes a new series of digital prints and an exclusive screening of Zamagni’s short film “Horror Vacui” (2018). \nIndeed\, the gallery was immediately impressed by the imagery\, conception\, and execution of the video. Matthew’s handling of references to hyper-development and the global crisis is executed with an engaging skill and strong attention to detail combined with an impressive understanding of the medium. \nSet in the context of the current climate crisis\, “Crepuscolo” explores the relationship between human hyper-development and geological growth. As the artist states\, “I wanted to create an environment where people can observe the relationship between humans and nature\, its repercussions and interdependence.” The exhibition focuses on the role of human activity in redeveloping and removing the Earth’s resources\, thereby disrupting the world’s balance. Zamagni’s kaleidoscopic visions of unnatural worlds where man-made industrial structures and architectures of density are depicted in a state of instability and excess carry the weight of impending ecological disasters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatteo Zamagni \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatteo Zamagni (Cesena\, 1992) is an Italian-born artist and filmmaker who lives and works in London.\nHe uses technology as a tool to create immersive and interactive videos\, installations and performances. His work has previously been exhibited at the ICA\, The Barbican and Tate Modern.\nHis research lies between spirituality\, art and science to create works that explore themes of consciousness\, the body as a perceptual interface\, the expansive impact of humankind on the ecosystem\, and the relationship of natural phenomena that traverse the observable world. \nCREPUSCOLO from 05.10 to19.10.2019 at Anise Gallery – Inauguration 05.10.2019 at 6pm. \nCatalogue > \nAnise Gallery >

SUMMARY:Alex Dorici | Galeria Fernando Santos
\nInstallation Rope is part of a set of site-specific works began in 2011. The material is naval rope\, with variable length and thickness\, depending on the space in which the installation is places. The rope is part of a reel which dialogues with the architecture of the space where the installation is placed. This subtle technique and material aim at distorting the space and the perception of the viewer\, inviting him/her to enter the installation and become part of it. \nAlex Dorici\, of Italian and Portuguese nationality\, was born in Lugano (Switzerland) in 1979\, where he currently lives and works. At the beginning of 2000\, Alex followed his artistic vocation joining the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli in Como and graduating in 2005 in Painting and Engraving. As a student\, he won the first prize at the Concorso di studi Angelo Tenchio (Como)\, in the video art section\, with the short-film Saudade Itamar (2003). Since 2007 Alex Dorici’s artistic production has been profoundly marked by a persistent research of the dialogue between the work of art\, the surrounding environment and the public. Moreover\, the artist has constantly been challenged by the street art language and made subtle interventions\, using the tape in order to give a new dimension to the abandoned urban spaces. Sensitive to the frenetic consumerism and the consequent debris\, Alex Dorici paid a special attention to the use of recycled materials\, inviting to an ethical fruition of his installations. \nGaleria Fernando Santos\, now celebrating its 25th anniversary\, was the first art gallery to settle in Miguel Bombarda Street\, Porto\, in what later became the so called Art District. Contributing to creating an unprecedented dynamic in the city\, Galeria Fernando Santos has been constantly carried on its activity with the goal to promote promising young artists within the art market. \nWith the special prizes “Artist in Gallery”\, Arte Laguna Prize aims at creating a wide and versatile network within the international art world\, giving the artists the opportunity to collaborate with a large variety of galleries\, museums and foundations. \nAlex Dorici is on view at Galeria Fernando Santos from May 4th until June 29th 2019. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition catalogue > \nGaleria Fernando Santos >
